Duran duran (commonly known as the wedding album) is the seventh studio album and the second self-titled album by english new wave band duran duran.
It was released on 11 february 1993 by parlophone. After dwindling commercial success in the early 1990s, duran duran returned to the uk top five and us top 10 with this album, which has been certified gold in the uk and platinum in the us. The singles " ordinary world " and " come undone " reached the us top 10 of the billboard hot 100.

This song is questioning the opposition between marriage -as a cultural imposition- and the lack of values such as friendship, which are not reinforced in this ordinary world culture. This song is claiming that we should go back to our essence (emotional, erotic and intellectual) which is overwhelmed by the alienating nature of culture. Learn to survive but live according to your essence.

Clearly, the label wanted to re-introduce college djs to duran duran, as they must have been still wearing diapers when duran duran hit it big in the early 80's, and so a copy of 'decade' was bundled here as a bonus disc. Song review by donald a. Guarisco pop fans nostalgic for new wave sounds got a pleasant surprise in the early '90s when duran duran made an impressive comeback with their self-titled 1993 album. However, the group on this album was neither the new wave band of the early '80s or the dance music outfit of the late '80s. Instead, the group had reinvented themselves yet again as a journeyman pop outfit that used their pop songcraft skills to create a slick combination of dance textures and earthier rock music elements. They immediately hit paydirt with "ordinary world," a lushly textured ballad that became a massive surprise hit at the end of 1992. The song's lyrics depict a man who cushions himself from the pain of a breakup by returning to the outside world: "and i won't cry for yesterday/there's an ordinary world i somehow have to find/and as i try to make my way to the ordinary world/i will learn to survive. " these words have a surprisingly direct and adult tone that stands in direct contrast to the colorful wordplay of past hits like "the reflex. " the music behind these sentiments avoids dance rhythms and new wave minimalism to create a warm ballad feel, matching elegant verses full of entrancing repeating-note hooks with a rousing chorus built on soaring runs of ascending notes. ��� duran duran were once the biggest band in the world with the good looking, suave members all household names and poster boys on several million bedroom walls of captivated teenage girls. In the early to mid 1980s duran duran was at the forefront of the new romantic movement and could do very little wrong, with millions of record sales, massive tours and a huge following from thousands of screaming teenagers around the globe. Even teenage boys loved them with plenty of scantily clad women in bikinis appearing in their expensive and often flamboyant videos that were at the forefront of that recent phenomenon. With hits such as girls on film, rio, hungry like the wolf, the reflex and the james bond theme a view to a kill the five lads from birmingham uk were on top of the world. Things of course never stay the same, and after the live aid concert the band started to go their separate ways. Various solo projects ensued for the five and while duran duran the band did continue in name (with several line-up changes) and with a couple of minor hits such as ordinary world it was not until 2001 that the original five who started it all decided to get back together and recorded again. Throw in a uk tour to the mix and fans of this 80s supergroup could begin to salivate again.
