"notorious" marked the debut of the new streamlined trio version of duran duran, as andy taylor and roger taylor had left the band by the time the album was released. In fact, the acrimonious nature of andy taylor's departure was reflected in the song to a certain degree. According to songwriter simon le bon, the lyric "who really gives a damn for a flaky bandit" was a direct dig at the guitarist.

Hi katy! i was reading the collector’s corner article that mentioned the confusion about the origin of name “the wedding albumâ€, and i figured i’d pass along a random tidbit:
somewhere in my vhs archives, i have an old mtv (us) news segment from around late-november 1992 with kurt loder. He was reporting on the daily mail expose about the ira’s attempted bombing of the duran duran concert that princess diana attended. At the end of the segment, kurt somewhat-sardonically states (i’m paraphrasing here), “ duran duran appreciation coffee mug best mug duran duran quote lyrics mug duran duran survived to make something called ‘the wedding album’, to be released next yearâ€. I’m not 100% sure the cover had even been seen yet, but i don’t remember the segment well enough to be sure.
In fact, i didn’t realize the official name was not “the wedding album†until it charted on billboard.
Recording[ edit ] liberty is the first duran duran album to feature songwriting credits outside the lineup from the first three albums. Guitarist warren cuccurullo and drummer sterling campbell were made official band members and given songwriting credits, although campbell would leave in early 1991, before the band began work on their subsequent album the wedding album.

I had the original release of this album years ago when i was a bit of a 'new romantic'. Since then i had sold off my vinyl collection just before the cd became the new music format. I never did replaced the album i just bought their greatest hits cd. To my surprise i found this new limited edition in my local record store and i guess i bought it out of nostalgia.
Background and release[ edit ] greatest is an update of the 1989 tenth anniversary compilation album, decade. The new release includes songs from their eponymous debut album through 1997's medazzaland (excluding 1995's thank you ). The album includes all 14 songs featured in decade, plus "new moon on monday" and four singles from the '90s. However, several songs on the disc are presented in their edited forms in order to fit on a single cd. In addition, the disc oddly uses an edit of "rio" that was not used on any of the song's lp single releases, and to this day, has not appeared on any release other than greatest.
