The counterfeiting began in 1964. As you should know, capitol passed on releasing their first album "please please me", so epstein and martin found an american label that would, vee-jay. It bombed. Then came their second album, which capitol was finally convinced to give it a try, and with their big publicity machine, and the ed sullivan show, it shot to number one. Smelling more money, capitol searched for back-catalog material they could also release, and notified vee-jay they were exercising their legal right to the first lp, and vj was pressing new copies of "introducing" as fast as capitol was pressing "meet". The short version is that vj had to turn over the master tapes, stampers and cover art slicks, but they could sell everything in their warehouse. Well, the warehouse never ran out of copies (and copies may be the operative word here). Does your obviously un-original copy of "introducing" sound like it was made from another copy? vj never admitted to doing such a thing, but this duck sure quacked a lot.

1964 stereo original "version one" lp (with "love me do") and blank back cover (no "printed in usa" on front). Rainbow labels with oval vj logo and "stereo" at right of playhole. Lp plays stereo version one as labeled. This is the best condition example of this album we have ever seen! the labels are near perfect and the vinyl is stunning! there is one very light inaudible scuff across the last two tracks on side two and that's about it. The cover is spectacular, including the bright white blank slick on the back! no seam splits, writing, etc. The front cover shows almost no wear at all, except at the bottom left corner, which is slightly "pushed". Includes original vee jay records lp catalog inner sleeve which is not split (but is creased). This may very well be the best copy of this extremely rare album that exists!.

With the beatles was released in the uk on, quite unfortunately, november 22nd, 1963. Nonetheless, the album was a huge success in the uk, remaining at the #1 spot for an extraordinary 21 weeks. An altered version of the album, renamed to meet the beatles!, was the second official beatles album to be released in the us (with introducingthe beatles being the first. However, meet the beatles was to be the record that would propel the group to immense success in the us). But i got home and looked up the album through google and noticed that its claimed to be "the most counterfitted album of all time.
